It is true that weeks, maybe months ago “save the dates” went out…and I did not let you know the final choice. So here it is. It seemed to be quite the easy choice. I do have to say, just before we saved the final copy, it was pointed out to us that we had used the wrong year. Whoops! We got it figured out and fixed it. They all went out and now it was time to move on to invites, ordered by the bride this week, bridals, and showers, oh-my! This weekend bridals, next weekend shower, then I must go order the bridesmaid dress, and then, after many days, several weeks, and just a few months, it is time to dance and enjoy wine and put on boogie shoes.

the rings

Since my dear friend now has the ring, and may I add it is gorgeous…go BILLY!

Didn’t he do so well?!

None the less it got me thinking about the rings I wanted, and after all as I have said before, “Yes, this is Jenni’s wedding, but really it’s all about me.” Muah hahahahaha. So I perused the internet, going from Tiffany’s to Neissing and then I saw this one:

I know Jenni and I are complete opposites. You see I have this great ring with blue stones. I have had it since I was 16, so we are working on 12 years now. It has been the only ring I wear on a regular basis. My mom gave it to me for Christmas. I love the blue. I think it would only be appropriate to have blue stones in the ring that I would then where for the rest of my life. Plus, its hand-made and supports artists. I can’t think of an engagement ring getting better than that!

I go to the McFarland Designs blog and I am blown away at the pure gorgeousness that are there. It’s like the rings were made to go on every finger of my hands…hey gotta keep the pimp hand strong. None the less, I love this ring almost as much as I love Jenni’s.

Okay so Just a few weeks ago(go figure I am slacking and late with the post) Jenni was officially fianced. Go Jenni and Billy. Now comes time to actually plan. My part, design the save the dates and invites and possibly other paper products. This should be interesting and fun! For inspiration I have perused the world-wide web for inspiration.

Okay so I will try to let this be the last post that is not about my dear friends wedding and is all about me. It’s just that the other night while perusing the world-wide web I ran across my cake. Well almost my cake, because this one has fondant, and my rule: “Just say no to fondant!” I imagine this with whipped butter cream icing while each little confetti is a piece of white chocolate. Yummy! And the confetti would be, you guessed it, red and gray, because if you still haven’t noticed I am obsessed with red and gray. Ladies and the few gentlemen that may or may not run across this site, meet my cake(without minor changes previously discussed-use your imagination for that):

it is all about the dress

Hello world. Let me first say that I have know idea what kind of dress I imagine on Batista. Sometimes I think this dress of geometric shapes and slight sheen. Then other times I think a dress of lace and hand beading. Then my head explodes from my thought process and I give up. So this post is not about my dear friends dress. It is about mine.

In April of 2007 I opened my recently delivered Self magazine. That’s when I saw Ali Lauter in the dress I would get married in. It wasn’t a wedding dress. It was just a dress she wore out and about. It was the perfect gray dress for me to marry in. (sidenote: I am obsessed with red and gray, I think this has been made known, but one can not be sure. I am obsessed with gray-quote me)

It is perfect…now I just need the husband and the arms…

Okay so when the dresses were first discussed I misunderstood completely. It happened while standing amongst the jellyfish at the aquarium. Well, Jennikins was trying to tell me that we would wear a floor length gown, yet I heard fleur-de-lis. So in my head for the next minute I had visions of this green gown with fleur-de-lis plastered on it like Coach symbols. I was mortified. I was scared. I swore I would only stand in one wedding, and now she was killing my dreams. I thought if anyone was going to put me in a decent bridesmaid dress it would be Jennikins! What was she doing to me….”WHY was this happening to me?!!!!”

I was quickly corrected with a tone that said, “silly whit…listen with your good ear!” Phew. It was just a floor length gown! Thank goodness!

Since then I have been picturing the perfect dress. I always imagined these strapless chartreuse dresses with a brown satin ribbon and brooch at the waist. I was, however, corrected and the dresses would be brown and one strap gown. With of course the flower in the hair on the side without the strap. My prior sketching and researching was in vain! In vain I tell you, but without further ramble I will share with you my sketches.

Birds in the hair

Dear Batista

At some point I recall you telling me that we would be wearing flowers in our hair. I have been wanting to get my hair chopped for oh a month or two now and all I hear from you every time is “No, your hair is so pretty and plus it needs to be long for my wedding.” My thought, yet never shared out loud till now…”It is going to have to be long to balance out a freakin’ bird in my hair.” Lets look back at birds in the hair from those who come before:

Ms. Carri Bradshaw…What the heck? I mean I know some people think this is fashionable, and I admit I am not fashionista, but really. It reminds me of when I was a little meanie in my younger years and would just do a bird hand gesture(4 fingers to indicate a cockatoo feathers) near my ear instead of using a girls name. This look is a no go. So if this is the look…well I will only where it if I get to eat birdseed and perch upon the groomsman shoulder down the aisle.

Madonna, Madonna. I prefered the pointy bra. Now with this look I would look ridiculous, but I could fly down the aisle with my wings. Then I could rock the most uncomfortable pair of shoes ever and look ferosh! Conclusion: I veto this look unless I can fly.

Final tally, birds are a negative ghost-rider

Maybe a flower in the hair? But beware…even flowers can go bad.

Sorry about the quality…But really, Shayne Lamas doesn’t look too bad, but still. It is so distracting. I mean…It looks as if her head sprouted bump-its and well an albino rose garden that got frost bite. So no to this look too.

Who is this girl…Looks a bit like Charlize Theron, but not quite her i don’t think. Point is, Flower done right. Big, but not too big. Simple flower. Great earrings. Great simple hair, with out being too big. This, Batista, is my vote.

Final Flower Tally: Flowers are a go, if they are done right. The end.

When the crazy wedding talk first started, I am not sure what I imagined Jenni’s wedding to be. She and I have always been two complete opposites, but one day we went to the aquarium for a day with the fishies. It was there that she provided some insight, and dropped a bombshell(bombshell will not be examined in this post. Stay patient).

We were standing amongst the clown fishies or some black and white sea horses, they’re all the same right… none the less I mentioned how my friend put beta fish in the middle of each table. It was then that Jenni told me how there would be tall hurricane vases filled with apples, green apples. So there would be black, white, and green apple. I have had this green apple stuck in my head the entire time. Oh how much you could do with apples.

Well I saw this picture today while parusing etsy. Nevermind the earrings are fabuloso! But the image itself is my new jumping point for Jenni’s wedding.

I know what you are thinking. That is one beautiful green apple(don’t tell anyone, but I think it is fake), not to mention a perfect contrast of this hammered handmade jewelry. That is why it will be the central concept for Jenni’s wedding according to Whit from this point forward.

no fondant

A while back while living in Houston, Jenni came to visit me. We went to the dessert gallery. While eating our cupcakes we watched this video and it taught us how to make this chocolate cake. There was more chocolate icing on that cake than you can imagine. It was perfectly iced with the little hand iced swoops. Jenni then said, “That is my cake, except, a wedding cake.” So today while reading through my google reader. I saw this cake:

I sent this picture to Jenni, and she said, “Seriously!!! How did you know that this is what I wanted…for real…where did you find this picture…no lie…” Sidenote people, I am good like that. I think my ideal job is party planning. I am just that good. Yep this is me tooting my own horn. So step up off!

Notice this cake has no fondant. Fondant is so perfect, and it is not very tastee, so it shall be buttercream(hence the blog name).

the start of crazy

You always hear of the girl that has that wedding book that she has had since she was 12. It has a magaizine cut out of JonJon, a picture of Princess Diana marrying prince charles, there might even be a mix tape with Amy Grant singing “Baby Baby” or Olivia Newton John’s “Honestly.” Whatever is typically in a girls wedding box, it is not in mine. My box doesn’t exist. None the less, there comes a point in a girls when she hits a certain age and decides, it is time to start planning the wedding. Now I just need a groom.

My dear friend, however, she has the groom. Kinda. He’s taking donations for the engagement ring. Hey we are in a recession. So the only thing standing between her and the altar are the plans for a 400 plus guest southern wedding and an engagement. All that is just details. Please don’t let the title fool you, it is not two girls marrying each other. We are just mearly two friends planning the others wedding.

I am Whit. I don’t do big weddings. Well I love them, but my wedding will not be big. I don’t have a groom in the works. I am what some call commitment-phobic. I mean girls are crazy, but boys, boys are crazier. So since my wedding will probably be 20 people in vegas, or Boston, or a random street corner in NOLA, I am making it my duty to plan my friend, Jenni’s wedding. Like I said, she has the groom. Kinda.

This blog however is girl crazy in type. This is crazy unfolding. This is a “grown-ups” wedding wish box on the world wide web. Enjoy!
